Oracle Guidance Cards 101

Every morning my partner and I sit down to a cup of tea and a deck of Oracle Cards. We take turns in selecting the deck, then cleanse them in our tibetan singing bowl, and then we choose a card each. He reads mine aloud, and I read his. It gets us looking inward and sharing aspects of our lives we might ordinarily gloss over or keep hidden.

Oracle cards are a powerful instrument offering us guidance and serving to connect us back into our own source of higher wisdom. I can’t recommend them enough.

So what are Oracle cards?

Oracle cards are a deck of cards, usually between 44 – 54 in a pack and each card depicts an image and a number. The cards come with an accompanying book with messages corresponding to the numbers on the cards. The messages will give you more information about the card you have selected.

And, how do you use them?

Anyway at all. However it’s a good idea to clear the energy of the cards prior to each use so you can elevate their energy and help make a clear connection. You can clear your cards by holding them next to your heart and breathing deeply simply intent for the energy to be clear, or hold them in your left hand and knock on the top of the deck three times with your right knuckles. You can also breathe into your heart and then blow on them.

Next, shuffle the cards. You can select a card after shuffling, or spread all of the cards out on the table choosing (with eyes open or closed) a card which calls to you. A card can also choose you by jumping out of the deck while you shuffle. Select the card by any means, such as if a card looks brighter than the others, or you look at that card first. You can also breathe deeply and ask to be guided to a card that is right for you, or that holds a message that will offer you high loving guidance.

I always call in my unconditionally loving soul / higher self, or I call in loving guides and beings to help me choose a card.

What are the benefits of working with Oracle Cards?

They’re a divination tool helping you connect with your Higher Self and the Universe with the intention to receive guidance. They lift us up and out of our monkey mind which can have a running in circles, and encourage inward focus and conscious self-awareness. They serve to plunge through chaotic thought and guide us toward a helpful way out of our current circumstances.

They help us see the light and re-align with Spirit instead of our ego-mind.

They’re ideal if you are struggling with an area or person in your life, whether it be from your past, present life, or your potential future. You can ask questions of the cards, or just ask “Tell me something I need to know right now” or “What would it be helpful for me to focus on?”

Other questions you can ask include:

What is holding me back from meeting a loving partner?
How do I block my spiritual / psychic gifts?
What is holding me back?
What are my current challenges?
Please bring me insight into my current work situation?
How can I feel more joy / peace / love etc?
Can I have insight into my current relationship with ________?
What would be important for me to focus on for my spiritual growth?

You can ask anything and the cards will help you go deeper.

How to choose an oracle deck?

There are so many oracle card decks out there. I great place to start is to head to your nearest crystal shop, new age book store or online and browse the decks of cards.

Breathe deeply into your heart and ask to be guided to a deck that is right for you. Select the deck of cards just like you would choose a card – letting it sing out to you by any means such as colour, a picutre that looks nice, an intriguing name that speaks to you.

Does Your Life Feel Complicated?

Spirit simplifies.

It’s through doing nothing. Just stopping everything, pausing from your life, and giving a chance for your heart to speak.

Our deeper knowing is always there, but we just have to get out of our heads to give it a chance to be heard.

Call on your Soul to speak to you. It’s language is powerful yet subtle, and it usually doesn’t speak in words. Here’s a quick exercise to help you connect into your own wise inner force.

2 Minute Soul Voice Meditation – 

Shift your focus away from everything and everyone in your life, and move it to your heart. Close your eyes, and keep your focus on your heart beating deeply inside of your chest.

Inhale fully. Let your mind rest, without ‘trying’ to silence it.

Exhale. If your attention has drifted, that’s okay. Bring it back to your heart. Can you feel it beating? Breathe into it.

Breathe out.

Feel for your answers.

The light of your Soul shines within you,

and is waiting to be heard.

Wisdom to stop those Sugary-Binges

acceptance, love, binge eating, weightloss, how to lose weight, best, how toRecently I’ve been on a binge of sweet treats. The bait is chocolate, choc-chip cookies, cake….well basically if it has sugar and cocoa in it I’m hooked.

I’ve experienced an interesting although not uncommon journey with sweet foods and food in general. Years ago I placed a great deal of emphasis on body image. I wanted above all to be skinny so I deprived myself of so many different kinds of foods. I remember sprouting on and on about how much I hated butter, which was never actually true but it seemed to get me attention (which I liked…even though I pretended I didn’t) and get me out of eating anything with butter in it, which (god forbid) might be fattening…

Healing and therapy work helped me to gain a deeper understanding about myself and the universe, and through further discovery I’ve mostly healed this part of myself. Through this healing and acceptance, I’ve been able to eat without feeling guilty afterwards, and choose what I actually want to eat and not just what would have the least calories or be easiest to burn off. I’ve actually discovered how to love my gorgeous body, tummy, thighs and all! However from time to time I’d find myself binge eating. And not just binge eating anything, I’d developed a strong inclination toward sweet foods.

A year or so ago another shift occurred amidst a chocolatey-binge session. I was knee deep in a block of Whittaker’s chocolate when I started to honestly question what was really going on. A part of me told myself that it was harmless and okay, however there was another part of me that was still curious as to why I was fairly balanced with my eating habits, except for the odd occasion in which I’d uncontrollably fly off the handle and wind up acting like a choc-crack addict needing hit after hit after hit.

I reflected on myself and my habits for sometime however I didn’t feel as though I was having any blinding ah-har moments. But I kept at it, sitting in gentle curiousity of myself without allowing in any guilt or critical thoughts. I was set on understanding myself with compassion and acceptance. And it was through this gentle and kind enquiry that I learned something new. I was lead to go deeper into meditation and consult my higher wisdom for the insight I desired.

Deep breathing and meditation helped me to get past the pesky thoughts which were popping up and crowding my mind, and I used visualisation to set off on a journey to a meeting place. At that time I was working with my meeting place being in a beautiful garden sitting under a tree. I waited there in my mind and called in a Being or Guide to help me with this issue.

I felt a shudder rush up my spine and then straight back down again, then goose bumps formed down my right leg. I felt the angel Archangel Michael whom I work with a lot, come to me and so I mentally said hello. Hello dear child I heard back. I thanked Archangel Michael for coming then I began to ask him questions about my eating habits.

Why do I continually have bouts of binge eating chocolates and sweets which I can’t seem to control? What do I get from eating sweet food?

Almost immediately I received a profound and insightful response.

You tell yourself you love you through sweet foods.

I knew exactly what he was talking about. All the years of punishing myself and telling myself I was worthless through depriving myself of foods, now I was playing out a misguided paradox.

It also made sense why these urges would come and go. I could see why sometimes it was relatively easy to be mostly sugar-free but then why I would have periods where I would crack and eat chocolates everyday for a few days or even a week. It was these times I needed love.

When I felt the strongest urges for a binge on sweet foods these were the times I needed to pause and accept and love myself. So conversely when I needed to hear I love you and I wasn’t giving that to myself I would turn to the sweet stuff.

I thanked Archangel Michael and felt I knew what I had to do. Anytime I craved sweet foods I could know that what I really needed was love and work to give that to myself.

So as I go through this phase once more I have remembered the understanding I gained about myself and my needs. I need some self love. When I pause and focus on what I really need it seems clear that through the last week or so I have felt uncomfortable and have been feeling a lot of pressure as my partner and I move house. It is times of change or upheival that I (and most of us) extra self-love is required.

Already I feel the cravings dissipate and a deeper more sturdy warmth holding me instead. I will encourage more self-love through some deep breathing, a good selfie-hug and a meditation to connect back into my soul love energy within -which is sweeter than any chocolate every could be 🙂

A good place to start is to notice if you are tense. Often we can think we are relaxed when really we have just become used to being stressed!

So we’ll start with awareness.

Bring your awareness to your physical body. Is your jaw and mouth tight and tense Are your lips pursed? Are you shoulders raised slightly? Are you looking downward?

I catch myself many times a day holding a tense stance and it’s amazing how quickly you can feel better once you recognise how tight you are and then consciously release each part of your body. Often your mind follows suit with your physical body and you can experience a calmer state of mind by bringing awareness to your body first.

I start to lighten up by focusing on my physical presence: I loosen my jaw and let my mouth open slightly, moving my awareness to my shoulders, I move them around and let them fall into a relaxed, lowered position. Then I look upwards and let a small smile creep onto my face and look around. Sometimes I even gaze up toward the ceiling or the sky and then the final and most important step – I let out a big breath of air through my opened mouth. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!

Everything is okay. I am okay.

You are okay.

You can change how you feel at any moment. Sometimes this feels harder than other times, but it is always true. You don’t have to be bounding with happiness, but when we can lighten up everything becomes easier.

4 Steps to Meet Your Spirit Guide

Spirit guide, spiritual, how to connect, psychiWe all have a team of beings supporting us whether we consciously know it or not. For those of you who want to get to know them and work with them I am here to help and support you in doing just that. And to let you know that it is easier than you might think!

Everyone of us can connect in with them. It is only our thoughts that block us from allowing a connection to come through.

Usually these blocking thoughts are ones of doubt such as; I’m just making this up, you have to be a psychic to talk to guides/spirits, I’m just going crazy, Is this real? I’m just talking to myself, I feel stupid…. blah blah blah. I’m sure you can even come up with a few doubting thoughts of your own, and yes no-one is going to be able to tell you definitively that you are not just talking to yourself, but what have you got to lose? And you know what? The words and messages you receive back might just help your life!

Don’t let doubt get in the way of expanding your mind!

Which brings me to step one…

Step 1. Put doubt aside.
This is the biggest and most important point. Lay your doubts and skepticism aside, even just for this activity. Say to yourself, any doubting thought that comes into my mind I am going to put to one side for now and come back to later. In this one activity I am just going to give myself the benefit of the doubt and assume I am doing it.

Step 2. Set your intention.
This is where you decide you want to connect in with your guide. I do this by closing my eyes and taking a few deeps breaths, then I call out to my guide three times in my mind (feel free to speak these words out loud – if you are home alone:) with the words: I now call in my guide. Or something to that effect.

Step 3. Say Thank You.
Here is where you just assume your guide has come to you and is connecting in with you. You move into a deeper place of connection by completely throwing out all doubt and moving into a place of gratitude. Your mind switches from asking is anything happening, to if it was happening, then what is it? You look for clues and signs as opposed to evidence for failure.

Step 4. Ask a question and wait.
Ask anything you like, such as asking how you should refer to your guide – a name to call them by. Or asking them how long they have been with you. Start simple and work your way up to more in depth questions, once you have a good connection.

A good point to note is don’t discount the experience just because you can’t see your guide with your normal vision. We communicate with beings through many different methods so once you have asked your question just wait and be present for all the different ways we can receive communication; you might not hear a voice, but you might see your guide with your third eye, or you might communicate through knowing they are there and knowing what they are saying to you, or you might hear a voice within your head. Once you find out how you connect in best, such as by feeling, knowing, seeing and/or hearing you can start your connections off in that way, and then over time you will most likely communicate through several different modes.

Just allow the conversation to take place and notice any changes that you feel throughout your body, mind and in your energy. These will all serve as signs for you that there is a being present with you. For example; I always get shivers up and down my spine 3 or 4 times when I call them in, and now I recognise those feeling as a sign they have arrived.

This experience will be different for each person so go with whatever you get back, it might not feel like much at the start or it might be intense for you, but either way roll with whatever comes back without blocking with doubt.

I will expand on this in future posts, but this should give you enough to get started.
