The card I received was “Receptivity” and the poetic wisdom accompanying it included the following:
“Listening is one of the basic secrets of entering the temple of god. Listening means forgetting yourself completely – only then can you really listen. When you listen attentively to someone you forget yourself completely.
If you cannot forget yourself, you never listen. If you are too self-conscious about yourself, you simply pretend that you are listening – you don’t listen. You may nod your head, you may sometimes say yes and no, but you are not listening.
When you listen you become just a passage, a passivity, a receptivity, a womb: you become feminine. And to arrive one has to become feminine. You cannot reach god as aggressive invaders, conquerors. You can reach god only, or it is better to say, god can reach you only when you are receptive, a feminine receptivity.
When you become yin, receptivity, the door is open.”
Reading this passage got me wondering how often I completely forget myself when in the company of another?
I know the experience of this, I do it when I sit before a client, however why do I reserve this experience mostly just for client sessions? What would it be like to open up so completely, forgoing any need to have the next thing to say in a conversation?
Right now is the time to open fully, glide into vulnerability and fall so deeply into yin that we forgo ourselves in sacred union with another – with any other. All other beings on this planet are worthy of us, our attentiveness and our openness.
When was the last time you let yourself be open, bare and vulnerable with another?
When was the last time you let yourself have nothing to say?
Let’s take care to open, be love and listen.
